  • The first Rotary club meeting was in Chicago, Illinois, on February 23, 1905.
  • The first regular luncheon meetings were in Oakland, California, chartered in 1909.
  • The first Rotary convention was in Chicago in 1910.
  • The first Rotary club outside of the United States was chartered in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, in 1910.
  • The first Rotary club outside of North America was chartered in Dublin, Ireland, in 1911.
  • The first Rotary club in a non-English-speaking country was in Havana, Cuba, in 1916.
  • The first Rotary club in South America was chartered in Montevideo, Uruguay, in 1918.

The first Rotary E-Club on Guam was chartered on June 12, 2014, Pago Bay Guam.
 
I attended a Presidents meeting this afternoon held at the DNA Building and hosted by Tumon Bay President, Rindraty Limtiaco. Upcoming events in which I invite your participation:
 
  1. Rotary Dictionary Drive. 3000 dictionaries are donated to 3rd graders in GDOE. This will be led by the Vocational and New Generations Committee Chair, Karen Tydingco.
  2. Joint Rotary Meeting on September 3: Uffizi Gallery Virtual Museum and Mixer. A donation of $20 from each member will be collected. This meeting will satisfy our September 5 weekly meeting.
  3. Rotary Club of Guam will hold a Gala on April 18 . . . more information will follow.
  4. Rotary Club of Tumon Bay will hold its Melbourne Cup event on November 22nd at the Sheraton.
  5. Rotaract will hold a Youth Leadership Conference on September 27 at the Lotte Crystal Ballroom.
  6. Joint Rotary Weekend ideas are being generated. So far, we could look forward to a Softball Tournament. If you are skilled in this area or are a great team player, we sure welcome you as part of the team.
 
Our Rotary Club will hold a Christmas event, Committee Chair, Anita is spearheading this with a team of Rotarians. Please contact her if you wish to assist.
 
The month of August is designated a Membership and Extension month. Next month, September is New Generations month followed by Vocational Service month in October.
 
I look forward to meeting with our Club Officers and Committee Chairs at our Board meeting scheduled for August 29 at noon at the Leon Guerrero Business and Public Administration Building, SBPA Dean’s Conference Room.
